I used to struggle to get "real" and consistent traffic from Pinterest. But now Pinterest is sending me over 800,000 visitors per month in 2023.Here’s exactly what I started doing each day👇 pic.twitter.com/pbN6JMJLDe— Tony Hill (@tonythill) May 9, 2023 Pin 100% original images. I think this is a huge factor. These aren’t just modified images that have already been pinned.— Tony Hill (@tonythill) May 9, 2023 Pin 30 to 40 images per day, 7 days a week 😳I’ve got VAs who source these from social media and the original creators always get credit in the Pin description + they love having their images shared. Win-win.— Tony Hill (@tonythill) May 9, 2023 Pin every 30 minutes during peak hours for my main audience (USA), but they pretty much get pinned all day and night.— Tony Hill (@tonythill) May 9, 2023 Use Pinterest’s terrible built-in scheduler to directly upload and pin. I’ve tested other tools but the pins didn’t perform as well with them.— Tony Hill (@tonythill) May 9, 2023 Add a call to action to visit my site to see/learn more at the end of each Pin Description. Sometimes people need that little nudge of encouragement to click.— Tony Hill (@tonythill) May 9, 2023 Overlay text to the bottom of the image. It’s the same as the Pin Title. Darker colored background with white text.— Tony Hill (@tonythill) May 9, 2023 Every article on my site gets its own Pinterest Board. I’ve got over 1,000+ boards. As I add new images to articles over time, I pin them to its board as well. So these boards end up having a lot of images.— Tony Hill (@tonythill) May 9, 2023 I target keywords found via Google Adwords, Pinterest Trends & Pinterest Search Autocomplete.— Tony Hill (@tonythill) May 9, 2023 Each image is at least 1200px wide and always has the 2:3 aspect ratio recommended by Pinterest.— Tony Hill (@tonythill) May 9, 2023 I pay close attention to Pinterest image ads for my keywords/audience. They’re well-optimized because they’re dropping $ and don’t want to mess around.— Tony Hill (@tonythill) May 9, 2023 I throw $10/day on paid image ads & test different formats/styles of Pins to see which gets more clicks. Then start using those in for organic pins. Some demographics get different styles. Better to find out immediately if a pin style works or not vs waiting 6+ months.— Tony Hill (@tonythill) May 9, 2023 I’ve found a correlation between running my own Pinterest image ads and organic performance. As long as I keep spending $, my organic pins do well. I know, it sounds like a conspiracy theory 🤷♂️ but that’s just my experience and it’s not worth turning the ads off at this point.— Tony Hill (@tonythill) May 9, 2023 Women over 40 seemed to be more likely to click on pins and then visit the site. So I keep this in mind.— Tony Hill (@tonythill) May 9, 2023 My pins often take 6-12 months before they go viral and send a lot of traffic, so patience has been key.— Tony Hill (@tonythill) May 9, 2023 Whenever applicable, I sharpen images and up the contrast a bit to make them pop.— Tony Hill (@tonythill) May 9, 2023 Once I started implementing all of these things, within a few months Pinterest traffic really started to climb. Consistency, originality and hitting keywords are the common theme for me. But at the end of the day, eye-catching images is what's needed.— Tony Hill (@tonythill) May 9, 2023
